The Neurologists Couldn’t Believe She was Talking

He had been caught bringing to her apple juice on a sponge in an attempt to save her life. Then he had been stopped from visiting her.

The hospice facility made the decision to withdraw Tabetha’s food, as doctors believed she would not recover from the lack of oxygen to her brain. At the time, Tabetha was partially responsive in that she could blink her eyes and move one arm. LifeLegalDefenseFoundation Full Story

When her boyfriend, John, went to visit her, he was amazed to find her speaking and responding to him. She even asked him to bring her a sausage biscuit sandwich!
John immediately notified the hospice staff and asked that they give her something to eat. To his shock, the staff refused saying that she was not to receive any food whatsoever. In other words, they were planning to starve to death a woman who was clearly communicating that she wanted to live.
John called Life Legal and we worked with a local Life Legal attorney to have Tabetha transferred from hospice to the hospital and, most recently, to a brain rehabilitation facility.

Jack Phillips Last Stand – Appeals to Supreme Court

Walking into Jacks Masterpiece Cake Shop is akin to walking into an art gallery of cakes. Jack Phillips creates a masterpiece! Custom designs are his specialty: If you can think it up, he can make it into a cake! The Jack Phillips Video Story

By Marissa Mayer Posted on: | July 22, 2016

Today, Jack Phillips, owner of Masterpiece Cakeshop in Colorado, asked the United State Supreme Court to hear his case, Masterpiece Cakeshop v. Craig, and preserve his freedom to live and work in accordance with his beliefs.

The only other baker, photographer, and florist case to reach the Supreme Court thus far was Elane Photography v. Willock in 2014, involving Alliance Defending Freedom clients Elaine and Jonathan Huguenin. You’ll remember it as the case where a New Mexico Supreme Court Justice remarked that Elaine’s participation in events that violate her conscience is “the price of citizenship.”

Unfortunately, the Supreme Court declined to hear the Huguenins’ case, but as time has shown, the legal battles to protect the right of Christians to freely live out their faith in their chosen professions are just beginning.  Will the Supreme Court agree to hear Jack’s case? Here are five reasons why they should. Full Article at adflegal.org

Eyewitness report: Trump’s Meeting with Evangelical Leaders

President Donald J Trump

With Trump we have a chance. With Clinton we have no chance. This meeting was not about Trump’s Christian knowledge or virtues, but rather where he wants to take the country. I was one of over 1,000 Christian Leaders “inside the room” for an historic meeting with Donald Trump.

Christian leaders from all over the U.S. gathered to ask Donald Trump tough, specific questions about his policy and intentions should he be elected President. Event organizers originally requested Dallas, Texas as a central location for this meeting, hoping to attract some 200-300 national Christian leaders. But the only opening on Trump’s schedule was in NYC for 20 minutes, 30 days out. So they took the date.

A screening committee sent out invitations to about 1000 Christian leaders. With the high expense of flying into and staying in NYC, and with the date less than 30 days away, they reserved a room for only 100 people at the Marriott Marquis in Times Square. Each person who accepted the invitation then had to be vetted, both by security and by the Secret Service. Once cleared, each was notified by phone.

Despite the short notice, response was off-the-charts. Almost every person invited accepted the invitation, with many more requesting inclusion. Ultimately there were over 1000 in attendance. Security was tight, including three checkpoints plus Secret Service security.

At my table, I was astonished to be sitting with: a registered lobbyist for George W Bush, a Congressional candidate from North Carolina, a Florida Christian TV station owner, and Chairman of the Board of the Washington Times, also Steeling conference speakers in the room.

After opening remarks by conference organizers, Jerry Falwell Jr. spoke, then Franklin Graham. Both attested to the authenticity of Donald Trump. Polling official George Barna presented several charts, showing that Trump has a genuine path to victory if Christians vote. But in the last Presidential election, some 40 million Evangelicals stayed home – literally making the difference in the election.

Then Ben Carson spoke for about 20 minutes. His easy and soft-spoken style easily warmed the crowd. He pointed out that Trump had a bad three weeks, and Clinton had a good three weeks, and yet the race is still close, virtually tied. His main point was that Trump is a proven leader. He’s certainly not a politician, always worried about offending someone. And that’s what we need, a leader, not a politician.

Next came Huckabee, who moderated the discussion. Before introducing Trump, he made the point that we’re not voting on a pastor, or a Pope, but rather a leader. A leader who is quite different from the past, one who is able to change the status quo. He explained that this meeting was not about Trump’s Christian knowledge or virtues, but rather where he wants to take the country – and where we’re headed if Trump is not elected.

The biggest concern centered around the Supreme Court. The next President will appoint at least one, and up to five, new Supreme Court Justices. The Second Amendment, public bathroom policies, prayer in public places, churches’ tax-exempt status, etc. will likely be settled by the next President’s appointees.

When Trump was introduced, he didn’t speak from the podium, but rather sat with Huckabee on the stage, fielding questions for 90 minutes. (So much for the 20 minutes originally allotted – Trump truly wanted to be there!) No press was allowed, only Trump and the Christian leaders. Several prominent Christians asked Trump questions directly from the floor – James Dobson, Ralph Reed, Tony Perkins, etc. Most felt religious liberty was at stake in this election, saying that if the policies Obama has set in motion were allowed to continue, Christians would eventually have no liberty. Harassment of Christian organizations would continue and increase.

Through it all, Trump answered each question with solid answers, acknowledging each problem cited and explaining how he would take care of that problem. He seemed to be genuinely concerned about changing the dangerous direction of our nation. He addressed many subjects including the Supreme Court, national defense, border problems, Christian persecution, his pro-life stance, Israel, healthcare, education and energy.

Trump left to a standing ovation. Many who arrived unsure if they would vote for him, left convinced of how much is at stake in this election if Trump is not elected. Attendees came away knowing that if Clinton is elected, our nation’s current path WILL lead to disaster. If we don’t turn the ship now, we’ll soon be like socialized Europe – a disaster getting worse by the minute. Even the problems Venezuela is facing, with the population literally fighting for food, is not out of the realm of grim possibility. Don’t think it can’t happen here.

Afterwards, more questions were taken, addressed to a panel of Christian leaders. Subjects included dismantling the military, Christian business rights, etc. and were discussed in length.

At the end of the meeting was prayer. With few exceptions, the entire room knelt on the floor in corporate prayer for our nation. What a sight – some 1000 Christian leaders in their Sunday best, on the ground praying together. Who knows how God will move? Our hope is in Christ; our prayer is that even should the Lord take out His Church at the Rapture, He will take us out in revival, not out of spiritual disaster. We must finish well.

I love the Constitution more than I dislike Trump. He will attempt to change the direction of this nation. With Trump we have a chance. With Clinton we have no chance. Be thankful we still  have a chance and Please VOTE your conscience on November 8!

Homeless Jesus Brings 911 Calls

Almost every time the statue is installed in a new city, it inspires unique responses.

Since its installation in front of First Lutheran Church in downtown Fargo, N.D. last month, emergency crews have responded at least twice to calls from concerned residents who thought the statue was a real person. The Homeless Jesus statue

The bronze statue, created by sculptor Tim Schmalz, depicts Jesus as a homeless man lying on a park bench, covered in a blanket, with the crucifixion wounds on his feet. “Homeless Jesus” is based on the “Judgment of the Nations” scene from Matthew 25 and signifies Christ in “the most marginalized in our society,” according to Schmalz’s website.

The statue has been installed in cities all over the world, including at the Vatican. Almost every time the statue is installed in a new city, it inspires unique responses.

House Passed Law to Protect Against State Mandated Abortion

All Republicans voting for the Conscience Protection Act and virtually all Democrats against–was 245-182. This just shows how radically anti-life the Democratic Party has become. nationalrighttolifenews.org

“State agencies in California and New York are mandating insurance coverage of abortion, and the Obama Administration recently made it clear that it will not enforce federal laws that prohibit such mandates,” said Carol Tobias, president of National Right to Life. “The Conscience Protection Act will allow direct access to the federal courts for the victims of coercive pro-abortion government policies.”

The Obama Administration’s refusal to enforce the civil right of conscience is not only unfair and unjustified—it grossly violates the rule of law. It makes a mockery of President Obama’s 2009 Notre Dame speech in which he said ‘Let’s honor the conscience of those who disagree with abortion.’ But he has not.

In an unconscionable abuse of power, for almost two years the state of California has forced all insurance plans under its purview—and the people and institutions that pay the premiums—to subsidize abortion on demand.

The Weldon federal conscience law authored by Congressman Dave Weldon of Florida and continuously in effect for over a decade—makes it explicit and comprehensively clear that California’s action is illegal.

Enforcement however is vested in the HHS Office of Civil Rights (OCR) and that’s the Achilles heel that needs to be fixed —and will be fixed by the Conscience Protection Act.”

How is that Assisted Suicide Working In Oregon?

The overall suicide rate in Oregon has risen dramatically following the legalization of assisted suicide there. As of 2010, suicide rates were 35% higher in Oregon than the national average. stopmedicalmurder.com

Proponents of assisted suicide claim that “physician aid in dying” is not really suicide because taking a deadly drug is allegedly peaceful. Data from Oregon reveals numerous cases where patients have experienced severe physical and emotional symptoms from the drugs, including feelings of terror, confusion, and vomiting. In some cases, patients fall into a coma for several weeks before they die.

Gregory Hamilton, MD, a Portland psychiatrist pointed out that the Kaiser message caused concern for several reasons. “This is what we’ve been worried about: Assisted suicide would be administered through HMOs and by organizations with a financial stake in providing the cheapest care possible,” he said. Furthermore, despite promoters’ claims that assisted suicide would be strictly between patients and their long time, trusted doctors, the overt recruitment of physicians to prescribe the lethal drugs indicated that those claims were not accurate. Instead, “if someone wants assisted suicide, they go to an assisted-suicide doctor – not their regular doctor.” patientsrightscouncil.org

If a physician opposes assisted suicide or believes the patient does not qualify under the law, Compassion and Choices of Oregon (C & C) or its predecessor organizations has often arranged the death. According to Dr. Peter Goodwin, the group’s former medical director, about 75%  of those who died using Oregon’s assisted-suicide law through the end of 2002 did so with the organization’s assistance.

She was Pro Life and Nominated for President.

40 Years Ago this week, Democrat Ellen McCormack, pro-life columnist, wife and mother, made Pro Life history by being nominated for president at the Democratic National Convention back when the Democratic Party was Pro-Life.

Ellen McCormack: Pro-Life's Presidential Candidate of 1976

Ellen McCormack: Pro-Life’s Presidential Candidate of 1976

Ellen McCormack ran for president at the behest of a small pro-life group—The Pro-Life Action Committee—that operated out the Cure of Ars Parish in Merrick, New York. The goal was to use the campaign as a platform to educate the public on pro-life issues by taking advantage of election rules which required the media to give all candidates equal time. Relying on thousands of grassroots pro-lifers across the country, she managed to raise $5000 in small contributions in 20 states, becoming the first woman in American history to qualify for matching funds. Her campaign was not without some controversy. Her single-issue candidacy annoyed political elites so much that they voted a change in funding rules in the middle of the election. As of May 1976, any candidate who did not gain more than 10% in two successive primaries would no longer be eligible for public money. Nevertheless, she had managed to raised $280 00 in small donations, received $240 000 from matching funds for a grand total of half a million dollars, of which $330 000 paid for television advertising. bigbluewave.ca

This past Sunday, (March 2011) longtime pro-life activist Ellen McCormack passed away. Since the pro-life movement often devotes little attention to its own history, her name may be unfamiliar to many young pro-lifers. nationalreview.com

You are Trying to Impose your Beliefs on Others!!

A lot of hot-button topics are being debated in our state legislatures these days, topics of great ethical and bioethical importance, ranging from emergency contraception to gay marriage.

These debates address important issues for the future of our society.  Lawmakers face the daunting task of making decisions about what should or should not be permitted by law within a reasonable society. catholiceducation.org

Recently I was asked to speak in Virginia at legislative hearings about embryonic stem cell research.  After I gave my testimony, one of the senators asked a pointed question.  “Father Tad, by arguing against embryonic stem cell research, don’t you see how you are trying to impose your beliefs on others, and shouldn’t we as elected lawmakers avoid imposing a narrow religious view on the rest of society?” The senator’s question was an example of the fuzzy thinking that has become commonplace in recent years within many state legislatures and among many lawmakers.

First, the senator failed to recognize the fact that law is fundamentally about imposing somebody’s views on somebody else.  Imposition is the name of the game.  It is the very nature of law to impose particular views on people who don’t want to have those views imposed on them.

The second logical mistake the senator made was to suppose that because religion happens to hold a particular viewpoint, that implies that such a viewpoint should never be considered by lawmakers or enacted into law.  Religion teaches very clearly that stealing is immoral.  Would it follow that if I support laws against stealing, I am imposing my narrow religious viewpoint on society?  Clearly not.

So anytime we come across a lawmaker who tries to suggest that an argument in defense of sound morals is nothing but imposing a religious viewpoint, we need to look deeper at what may really be taking place.  That lawmaker may not be so concerned about avoiding the imposition of a particular view on others more likely, they are jockeying to simply be able to impose their view, a view which is ultimately much less tenable and defensible in terms of sound moral thinking.  Hence they seek to short-circuit the discussion by stressing religious zealotry and imposition without ever confronting the substantive ethical or bioethical argument itself.  Once the religious imposition card is played, and Christian lawmakers suddenly become weak-kneed about defending human life and sound morals, the other side then feels free to do the imposing themselves, without having expended too much effort on confronting the essence of the moral debate itself.

She Has Down Syndrome She has a 3.7 GPA

Young people with Down syndrome are constantly surprising their communities by showing how much they can achieve.

Madison Essig became the first student with Down Syndrome to graduate from Woodrow Wilson High School in Washington D.C. with a full diploma. “When Madison was born, we were told that she would walk, but there was no guarantee that she would ever read or write,” her mother, Kimberly Templeton, said.
