On his back he carries one of two handmade wooden crosses he made for the journey.

John Moore does the walking part — sometimes more than 15 miles per day across highway and local road, good weather or bad.

His walk started earlier this year in San Francisco and will end in Washington, D.C., on January 18, 2019, for the national Walk for Life.

But Moore, 68, does not look like an ordinary walker on the road — on his back he carries one of two handmade wooden crosses he made for the journey.

The crosses encourage passersby to stop and ask Moore what on earth he’s doing, and much of the response he’s received has been overwhelmingly positive. It’s part of what keeps him going, this opportunity to be a “witness for Christ,” even in the rain and hot sun, even on dusty dirt roads that never seem to end.

I always tell people it’s my job to put one foot in front of the other, and the outcome is in God’s hands … To be 68 years old and carrying a cross across the country, I consider myself blessed.”

And already in 2005, Kevin Jennings, then the Executive Director of GLSEN (the Gay, Lesbian, and Straight Educational Network), noted that, in 1995, “Fewer than a hundred gay-straight alliances existed,” whereas in 2005, “Nearly 3,000 schools have GSA’s or other student clubs that deal with LGBT issues.”

Today, there are more than 900 GSA’s registered in California alone, with younger and younger kids being exposed to them. That means that your 12-year-old daughter can come out to her peers and her gay teachers at school without your knowledge. And this interaction and affirmation (and more) can go on for years, again, without your knowledge.

And let’s not forget that, for some years now, California has had mandatory LGBT history classes for all children in public schools, grades K-12, without exception and without the ability to opt out.

Religious freedom is one of the basic freedoms of the human person because without religious freedom, the freedom of conscience, all other freedoms are without foundation.

Freedom of religion is protected by the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, which prohibits laws establishing a national religion or impeding the free exercise of religion for its citizens.

The Founding Fathers recognized that all people have inalienable rights that flow from the Creator. These rights are grounded in the unique, Judeo-Christian concept of man’s inherent dignity as a creature made in God’s image, endowed with reason, free will, and an eternal soul.

The annual Fortnight for Freedom will consist of national and local efforts to educate Americans on challenges to religious liberty both at home and abroad.

Freedom of religion is a fundamental human right that protects the conscience of all people. It allows us to think, express and act upon what we deeply believe. But around the world, and in the United States, this freedom is eroding. Churches, religious organizations and individuals face increasing restrictions as they participate in the public square, express their beliefs or serve in society.

“A government that doesn’t acknowledge limits on its own power to regulate religious institutions is probably going to come after other institutions as well,” said Professor Rick Garnett of the Notre Dame Law School.

“When religious freedom goes away, and there is no transcendent authority, then the law is the only norm, and the people in power now are always the only power,” says Professor Helen Alvare of George Mason University Law School.

“The United States is the greatest country in the history of the world precisely because of the exceptional character of its relationship to faith which permeates every dimension of its evolution,” says Eugene Rivers II, an activist and Pentecostal pastor.

In order to follow his conscience, he has turned down requests for cakes that contain messages expressing certain ideas: Halloween and divorce, anti-American themes, and even anti-gay messages.

In 2012 he had politely declining to design and create a cake for a same-sex wedding.

Phillips claimed that decorating cakes is a form of art, that he can honor God through his artistic talents and that he would displease God by creating cakes for same-sex marriages.

Craig and Mullins claim Phillips discriminated against them based on their sexual orientation by refusing to make the cake they requested in 2012, in violation of the Colorado Anti-Discrimination Act (CADA).
